My first ever visit to Long Eaton Stadium in April 84 I bought the April mag and then asked the track shop chap if they had a copy of the first Stock Car Magazine (being wet behind the ears as far a stox goes at the time). He just laughed and said "if we did have a copy it would cost you a small fortune". I did get it eventually at a NIR swap meet about 6 years ago for a QUID!

What about Phil Bicknell putting Stuart Smith away. Does anyone remember that? Was it a pay back?

I remember Smithy firing Bicknell in at Skeggy on a quite wednesday night meeting, i think bicknell had forgot about the big un smithy owed him and smithy planted him in good and hard, but not sure if this was payback from long eaton or bicknell returned the favour at long eaton, but i know when smithy did him i know it was payback but from when i dont know.

when I passed my test in Nov 79 there was only one meeting left. L.E. Firecracker. Went in my newly purchased Mk3 Cortina with no heater. Still remember it as being one of the coldeest meetings I ever went to!! Don't remember a bad meeting there. Personal memories, seeing Martin Bruin climb out of his car and forget which way to run and get launched by a fast moving F1 [Mo Smith?] I thought he was a gonner, so glad to see him get up again. Film crew doing the shoot for the Dave Edmunds video for Slipping Away [see it on you tube] Being allowed to on track bet on the semi 94 or 95 I think. Did they do it anywhere else?

One particular meeting there was a lengthy stoppage due to a fence post being broken so the cars stopped in single file slong the back straight & round turns one & two with their engines off. Johnny Goodhall was parked up on two (pretty much infront of me). All the drivers stayed in their cars exept Gimpy, he got out holding his crotch and dancing about on the track and he then ran to the fence, climbed over it and ran to the toilets hear the old trackshop. A few minuets later he came back with a releived look on his face and climbed the fence once again landing in the wet shale, ran towards his car but took a detour to the one behind to use the nerf rail of that car to scrape the clumps of shale off his boots before climbing back into his own car. Thanks for the laughs Gimpy during that lenthy race stoppage. Sadly still missed Johnny Goodhall.

329 Stu Young rolling on the back straight in 87 over the fence, the cab roof down on the dog track. Going up the Notts & Derby banner on the back straight banking every month to collect my newsletter from Kath Aylott. (still got them all) The double cheese burgers from the burger van on the back straight banking just after turn two. £2 they were if I remember right? Never had better from any other stadium to this day. Driving the 12 miles to L.E. from my house. Used to take me 20 minuets in my MK1 Escort so I could watch The 'A' Team and still be there for the start of the meetings. No speed cameras back then. Fastest ever was 15 minuets in a mates Mexico, fitted with Bilstiens and other rally suspention stuff could go accross the roundabouts without braking if all was clear. Upon meeting James Potter 164/10/146 for the first time in Australia (of all places lol). One of the first things I did was mention the '33 Peter Falding' meeting. (was the 164 v 33 meeting recorded on Video?)
