Thanks guys. The reason I ask is that I always thought Doug used the Pontiac engines right up until one of his comebacks in the 80s [Superclamp car comes to mind], when he found he couldnt even keep up with some of the white tops.
But during a conversation with an old friend who was a big Cronny fan right from the early 70s, he did mention that Doug did have a 454 Chevy in the car for the world final and that he replaced it eventually with a Pontiac because he felt the balance wasnt right with the Chevy engine fitted.
He also mentioned that he thinks Doug was the FIRST driver to fit a 454 Chevy, and although I was pretty sure Stu Smith had , at least I think, the first out of the box Chevy I wasnt sure which size. I did have an idea it was for the 69 world, as I remember the reports as saying he lapped everybody except the 2nd place driver....or something along those lines.

One reason the subject came up is that a friend of mine has bought the Cronny replica from Keith Barber and its going to be finished and raced in the Heritage Stock Cars, hopefully next year.

Heyup Stu - Glad to see I managed to get my facts right when we were talking earlier - just goes to show that all the sun, sea and sex has not completely addled my brain over the years.
Now just have to find an excuse to get back to the UK to see the Cronny replica in action.

OR - How about getting BRISCA recognised as an olympic sport, then I could see some racing in Rio in a few years !!!!!????
