I believe the correct number of drivers signed a petition to request that an EGM be called, to find out all the facts about the tyres.

Wonder why the committee didnt grant one........................?????????????

Any idea's??????????????????????????????????????????

It would not have been too bad if the change of tyre rule was annouced at the start of the new year but half way through the season is too short notice for some drivers.

But hopefully goods things will come out of it in the end!

Just guessing but I understand the drivers who signed the petition, were then contacted by the committee asking them to put their opposition in writing to them, in order for their name to count? From my days as a union rep' this action would not have been welcomed and a statement of facts would of been required and then a ballot held.
Any way this is only a hobby and I'm sure the committee has the best interests of the sport and its drivers at the forefront of its agenda.

Yep, I was also a Union rep, I concur totally.
To ask the drivers to do this after they have signed a petiton is nuts.
Or put another way, it is condescending towards the drivers who signed the petition. It's like asking them if they really knew what they were signing. Treating drivers like little children isn't going to make the BSCDA officers very much liked.
If I sign a petition to keep the local library open, then the local council asked me to write a letter explaining why I think the library should be kept open, I'd assume the local council were either totally ignorant towards it's electorates issues, condescending in trying to underestimate my intelligence and arrogant in trying to justify their existence.
Given that most drivers have a stockpile of Hoosiers, new and part worn, and also given that the BSCDA should have known this, then a few simple calculations would have concluded a longer run off period would be needed than one racing season. This is all summising that the shortened Goodyear contract isn't because there maybe a return to Hoosiers when the contract runs out.
Either way, you treat people how you wish to be treated yourself or you'll soon lose credibility and respect.

Perhaps:-
The very similar handwriting of some of the signatures Shocked , another from someone not in the country at the time of signing (allegedly) Suspect a few from people that were not members at all scratch and the part where it said on the petition that the committee were invited to contact those that had signed to verify that they wanted an EGM

may be mitigating circumstances Question

Like I've said before if enough members sign for an Egm the committee have to call one, it's not an optional thing!

Reading between the lines (and wording it carefully so as not to be a personal attack) it would appear that the tyre issue is being used to attack the current BSCDA committee, so i'll be expecting a particularly long voting slip with the next newsletter then Exclamation

All members have a chance to stand for and vote for the new committee, All members are told in advance what is on the Agm agenda, unfortunately not all attend the Agm but those that do have the task of trying to sort things out.

The tyre issue has been well deliberated at almost every Agm I've attended and more so over the last two (since the drivers asked for investigation into a different tyre) so why is it such a surprise !

If it's done properly then I wouldn't be surprised if the correct number of signatures for an Egm could be collected but talk about shooting yourself in the foot, dear oh dear lol!

Its been announced for over 12 months, hence the testing! and I'm sure most spectators and drivers cant be so naive as to think the testing was for the fun of it, for the past 18 months or however long its been. and before the season started I understand the drivers were told there would be a decision in August as to what tyres would be used in 2010 so no one has had short notice.

Just because certain drivers seem to ignore (or they would probably say that they had not been made aware!) topics brought up at AGM they now seem to be kicking up a stink about the decision.

2010..we'll wait and see. Overall costs are supposedly going to be less, tyres last longer, and the racing just as good. That's what they say so just wait and see. For me I hope and expect the name brings in a slightly higher profile to the sport and that the racing will be just as good. Of course for the drivers I hope they'll be surprised by the tyre..there's nothing to suggest its going to make the racing worse or costs overall increase.

I think this statement is correct, chris, its just the way decisions are carried out these days. (Like this or lump this) kind of attitude, there still no getting away from the fact the run off period is too short, and drivers will be dumping £500 to £2000 worth of usable tyres.
The BBc thing is great for the sport but the first we hear about this is a no filming threat, yes "threat" aimed at Lifetime fans.. No

I'd just like to say that my grumble is about the run out period -or lack of it- and NOT about the manufacturer of the tyres we roll will.

This is the point... its different when your paying out the money so you can race..budget racers buy in bulk and enough used tyres to last them a good few seasons..its one way of trying to keep costs down to be able to entertain you!.

Agreeing with Linclon...its not about the manufacturer and change, just the run off period.. Maybe we could all drive like mr Warwick and burn some rubber. Then they'll be too many complaints about non sensible racing lol.

I think you should have a "burn off" meeting, maybe the last birmingham where all drivers should do what tim doe's. Twisted Evil

The other issue that could come from the change is i believe the goodyear deal is for 1 year at the moment - are we going to be in the same situation next year having to burn tyres off?
