BEATEN BY THE WEATHER! STOKE POSTPONED SUNDAY 5th March

Sunday's event at Stoke on March 5th has regrettably been postponed due to the continuous heavy rain, sleet and snow with Friday particularly damaging. Together with a BBC forecast of a day of almost continuous rain Sunday, we have decided to postpone the event.

In recent weeks, around 5000 has been invested in the track in time and relaying the track with up to 100 tonnes of fresh shale in preparation for the great season ahead however the continuous heavy rain and low temperatures means that all that work will be undone and risk damaging the track.

Following yesterdays rain, close on 12 hours, had we had a decent forecast for the two days with no rain Sunday, we could have finished preparations but i do not believe an afternoon of swamp buggy racing does anyone any favours. We have checked several forecasts and all similarly predict a very wet day with rain later today, a respite over night and rain arriving during the course of tomorrow morning and then continuous throughout the day.

We are bitterly disappointed but sometimes judgement calls are difficult, however shale and time of year is something we have to contend with and being responsible for drivers and fans. Unusually we have had to make a late call based upon original forecasts showing more promising 2 days however that has worsened in the last 12 hours.

This event will be restaged at a later date which we will announce in due course. Tickets purchased for this meeting will be valid on the 11th or 18th March.

The next event is SATURDAY 11th March 4.30.pm

Bad luck Steve. I hope things improve there quickly .
Btw did you inherit the Coventry hole also? I think I just saw a clip of the track inspection https://youtu.be/CWOtus4j8YQ

Loved the YouTube clip LOL Excellent!

If we were running today / this evening the track would be perfectly raceable despite 12 hours of heavy rain yesterday. NO standing water on it, the new drainage clearly works! BUT in time / materials - over the last 3 weeks we have completely relaid it including some work in an area was it was soft following freeze / thaw of the Winter. That's cost around 5k as stated in time and materials. We acquired extra shale from Coventry [ which cost 2k in haulage! ] and have laid close on 100 tonnes on it to reshape / relay it. We have also bought a tanker and grader from Coventry - now on site.

With a consistent forecast tomorrow of 'heavy rain' most of the day, at this time of year with the ground soft, less than an hour will mean the track is 'heavy' and subsequently the damage and work involved in trying to repair the work and put it back could take 2/3 weeks - At the end of tomorrow there would be the chance of 150 tonnes of slop and slurry left which would take a solid week to just work and 'dry out' - By being prudent, the track is near as damn 'ready' and will be perfect for next Saturday - a better option than having it 'bumpy' and unsettled until May when temperatures improve to dry material out.

We have tried to be 'responsible' for the drivers, a spectacle for fans, many of whom won't attend anyway if the forecast is indeed correct, the damp squib start to the season and consequential damage. With what we have spent during the winter amongst other things, rest assured we would like to get some revenue in - but not at all cost that prejudices the next couple of months

Glad you liked it Steve. Its always going to be a tough call when it comes to weather at eaither end of the season. This time it looks as though its blown itself out and you may only get 2mm of wet stuff. As we all know deep down.....tarmac is for getting there and shale is for proper stock car racing. But I wouldn't mind tarmac if only they would leave a hosepipe running water across the track on the exit of each turn from the outside edge (it would help even things up for those with less motor under the hood Twisted Evil ).
