| Just been watching Youtube vid of the Wellington NZ Stockcars Teams Champs. Just wondered, I know almost all the UK drivers are against clutch starts but the way they stop in NZ as soon as the reds are out, wouldn't this work in the UK? It doesn't have to be a clutch start afterwards either, just go when the green goes down again. It would sure save watching cars going round and round aimlessly, marshalls waving flags and being ignored, fans wondering WTF is going on and stop the jump starts. If it's a clutch issue, can't a cheaper clutch alternative be sourced? I presume they have clutches in NZ as well?

| Theres 2 sides to everything, personally I can see the posetives to both ways. The restarts are one issue you have to be on your game and it does put alot of stress on drivelines, in stockcars (not superstocks which the F1 guys drive down here) we only have 200-250 hp and we can blow things like propshafts, gearboxes and break halfshafts on a start/restart. Also getting everyone to stop sounds simple, but in the heat of the moment spotting a red light/flag can be difficult I know I seldom know what is going on until I start seeing other cars stop then I look for it, and then you dont want to stop until you know the guy behind you is slowing down as getting drilled by a car when you are stopped and starting to relax is not fun at all. Then you have the arbitrary backing up of cars by officals based on where you were assumed to be when the lights went red. Overall we have what we have and you have what you have, and I think that the yellow flags work well for your type of racing, it bunches the field up and you get a bit more excitment and bumpers being used on a restart. Although I remember one Ministox race at Long Eaton I was leading by a fair bit and a yellow came out about half distance and I had a load of Reds behind me and ended up in the fence on the restart, I probably would have thought differently about it then |

Yeah, you're right, there is that. Mind you, like your example, I've always felt sorry for the likes of Tim Warwick, Richard Bryan or Mike Kingston, half a lap in front, 5 laps to go, out come the yellows and on the restart he looks in his mirror and he sees Murray Harrison and Lundy up his arris with the Smith brothers, the Wainmans, the Neachells and god knows who else only metres behind. |
