PostSubject: Nigels rebuild #45   Thu Jan 05, 2012 8:09 pm

Just been reading re. #45's rebuild and he said "Right, whos going to first to tell me i have done it wrong, lol"
As I am not a memeber of the other side I wondered if he had sourced the correct grade of steel for the chassis leg i.e not mild steel, or he may soon be straightening it again pale . Anyway if someone wants to PM him or ask the question feel free (it may save him a bit of agro in the long run).

I would hope he's got the correct grade of steel, for the main rail,he's asked many rated people,

although IMO too much Hi tensile steel is used on stock cars, its brittle, not bendy.

his biggest mistake was selling the big block, would of served him well on shale,

Great feed back from a great bloke, in what has always been a dark 'n' silent world of information

in terms of power plant, set up, build, etc.

And a word of warning to anyone...... always ask to see the test paper for the batch of steel you buy from the stockholder if it is critical - there are some numptys/rogues out there.
Also there was the option to put down bars from the roof like the old FWJ (aka Triggers brush car) but a lot of people dislike the look of this but it served young Frank well. Oh well, too late for that option now.

New steel should be supplied with certification.

From Mr H on Stoxnet "Cheers Ian, The Boss has called (FWJ) and sorted it. Someone pointed him to this thread, and he called me and put me right. As you say it has to be a better grade, and he has a length for me, he is coming down to the Derby this weekend and will drop it off, and ill go and get it Monday now."
Talk about learning the hard way No At least it should be done right now. Good luck for the future Nigel cheers

Sorry Grafter you were correct , and right to question the grade of steel, i never thought he would fall foul of that,

A hot stox hit the fence at long eaton once, and bent in two, turns out it was 3mm thick and mild steel. pale

Thats OK oval smash. These cars have developed over 50 years and and most of the developements have been learnt through the back pocket/injury (lets not go back over old ground). I do believe the rulebook still needs tidying, to prevent costly errors and drivers/car builders taking advantage of well meaning rules, due to a particular paragraphs having grey areas. i.e It may say "you can't do......" instead of "you can only do...."
And leave Beaks alone (he's still learning), he's only upto number 3 on the list http://www.stevenaitchison.co.uk/blog/10-personality-traits-you-will-be-hated-for/ lol! lol! lol! (only joking Beaks).

Well it looks like Nigel is worrying a little over his paint job now....I sort of seen this coming. Anyway, like I said before, "I do believe the rulebook still needs tidying, to prevent costly errors and drivers/car builders taking advantage of well meaning rules, due to a particular paragraphs having grey areas. i.e It may say "you can't do......" instead of "you can only do...." .
So will Nigel become the centre of the "powers that be" attention once more? or will they turn a blind eye to it like they do some others?
Either way the worst they can do is make him start at the back of the grid for wrong colours and then while he's about it he might as well stick the gold Smithy wing back on it so it won't look out of place lol! lol! lol! lol! lol! lol! lol!
